Mission
Chavara Vidya Bhavan
is another link to the chain of educational institutions run by the Fathers
of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate Congregation (CMI) all over India.
This
school had a humble beginning during the year 1986. The school is situated
away from the bustle of the city on the Maruthamalai road, close to Bharathiar
University campus, amidst natural surroundings with extensive play grounds.
Hope this Vidya Bhavan will grow to the expectation of fulfilling their aspirations
as a temple of learning to thousands far and near, through the benevolent
co-operation of all concerned and above all through the blessing of the Almighty.
The
Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous Religious Congregation
in India, was founded by Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. Kuriakose Chavara
was born in 1805,of pious and

devout
Catholic parents in Kainakary, Kerala, India. He started at Mannanam the first
Catholic Sanskrit School in Kerala in 1846 and the first Primary school in
1864, and later with all the other monasteries and parishes. He admitted students
of all sections of society, including Dalits. It paved the way for a social
revolution when untouchability was at its summit. He emphasized that all children
of God had an inalienable right for education. He placed great importance
in the formation of children in their families.
